| There is little information on the nutrition of red-winged tinamous (Rhynchotus rufescens) reared in captivity, and their nutritional requirements still need to be determined. This study aimed at determining dietary crude protein requirements and testing four organic selenium supplementation levels in the diet of red-winged tinamous during the breeding season. | En México el venado cola blanca es la especie más importante en la actividad cinegética por su derrama económica, lo que ha motivado a manipular la reproducción de esta especie para garantizar su conservación y aprovechamiento sustentable en el territorio nacional. Por tal motivo se llevó a cabo la presente investigación con el objetivo de definir la época reproductiva del venado cola blanca (O. v. miquihuanensis) en el Altiplano Potosino, la calidad de semen, la relación del fotoperiodo en la producción y la calidad de semen, y generar un índice de calidad de semen de venado. | The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of season, natural photoperiod, and room temperature at the housing facility on boar semen characteristics in Uruguay (34º66'S; 56º29'W). For this purpose, 117 ejaculates, obtained from eight adult males collected through 12 consecutive months, were assessed for sperm viability, DNA integrity, abnormalities (total, primary, and secondary), ejaculate volume, and sperm concentration. Viability, total and primary abnormalities, volume, and sperm concentration were affected by season. Sperm viability, volume, and sperm concentration were affected by natural photoperiod. | Abstract This study aimed to determine the semen characteristics of Astyanax lacustris after hormonal induction and to evaluate the sensitivity of the species sperm to cryoprotective solutions based on the cryoprotectants dimethyl sulfoxide and methyl glycol. | This study attempted to clarify the appearance of 70 kDa heat shock protein (HSP70) in spermatozoa and its relationship with the semen quality in crossbred Holstein Friesian (HF) bulls. Semen from 10 HF bulls was collected 8 weeks during rainy (THI = 79.06), winter (THI = 74.30), and summer (THI = 80.05). Semen quality was evaluated in terms of semen volume, sperm concentration, sperm motility, sperm viability, and percentage of abnormal spermatozoa. It was found that mass movement of sperm in the summer and rainy seasons were significantly lower than in the winter (P<0.01).
